Phosphate Fertiliser Industry:
Second to China in population and around 70% of its population earn their livelihood from agriculture, India stands as the third largest producer and user of Fertiliser after China and USA. But in respect of production of its huge tonnage of phosphate fertiliser, India has very limited or negligible deposit of Rock Phosphate, the basic raw material needed for any phosphate production. Most of the manufacturing units in India depend totally on the vast import of this raw material, which values (including freights, etc) more than 85% of cost of production of phosphoric acid (an intermediate for production of any phosphate fertiliser, except SSP).
For economy, all the bulk phosphate manufacturers in India switch over from one rock phosphate to other, while most of them do not have any Pilot plant to standardise the operating parameters for processing a new rock. Sometimes the plant or the technology itself has its limitation.
Process Technology:
With very limited scope in the margin of profit, Phosphate manufacturers precipitate mostly on improvement of its Technical yield and utilisation of its capacity by more than 200%, that also with the cheapest available raw material.
